PITTSFIELD — The new St. Agnes Parochial School in Pittsfield, scheduled to open in the fall of 1993, will include an optional extended kindergarten program.
The Rev. C. James Martel, pastor, and Sister Linda Mae Plourde, principal, announced plans for the additional program last week. The optional extended day program will be provided for families for whom the half-day program presents a child care or transportation problem.
The “extended day” after-school kindergarten will not be a full day of academics but rather the same half day of academic programs in the morning balanced with an afternoon supervised program of child care.
Families which choose the program will continue to have their children participate in a religiously oriented kindergarten for 3 1/2 hours and then spend the balance of the day in a supervised, structured and safe environment. The program will operate the same hours as the normal school day, 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the children who do not remain for the program will be released at the beginning of noon lunch.
Registration for children in kindergarten through grade 2 is continuing with some openings in each grade. For more information, call Father Martel at 487-2777.
