Carr, Simmons pace BC sweep

Gabe Carr pitched a two-hitter in the first game and Chad Simmons hurled a two-hitter in the second as Bangor Christian swept a Class D baseball doubleheader from Lubec on Tuesday in Bangor.

The Patriots won the first game 12-0 and won the second game 16-4.

In the opener, Carr struck out 10 and walked three to pace the 4-4 Patriots. He also singled three times. Matt Lassell added a double, a single, and two RBIs for the Patriots.

For the 0-6 Lubec Hornets, Brian Murphy and Mike Blanch each singled for the only hits.

In the second game, Simmons struck out eight and walked four, adding two singles. Ryan Mick tripled and doubled for the winners. Carr also had two hits.

Jamie Jones socked a double and Richad Tirado a single for the Hornets.

‘Guagus 6, Sumner 5

At Harrington, the Narraguagus Knights scored two runs in the sixth and held off a Sumner rally in the seventh to beat the Tigers.

Todd Benner had an RBI single in the sixth for the 6-2 winners and the second run came across on an error. Benner also doubled and Brad Marston had an RBI double and singled. Dan Curtis chipped in with a two-run single and Mickey Willey cranked a solo homer in the fourth.

Curtis earned the victory for the Knights by scattering eight hits while striking out five and walking one only one.

The 5-3 Tigers of East Sullivan rallied for three runs in the seventh on Brian Jordan’s two-run double. The third run came across on an error. Gabe Taylor and Aaron Newman each singled twice.

At Dyer Brook, the Hornets rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to take the victory and improve their record to 6-2.

The Hornets loaded the bases in the seventh. A walk, passed ball, hit batsman, and sacrifice fly by Andrew Sjogren produced the four runs.

Dean Rafford, Ben Jackson and Ron Plante each singled for Ashland.

Adam Burpee had three singles and an RBI for SAHS, now 6-3. Aaron Greenlaw singled twice and Kilby Russell added an RBI single.
