BC’s Carr no-hits Averill to spark sweep

Gabe Carr pitched a no-hitter in the opener and Ryan Mick hurled a two-hitter in the second game as Bangor Christian swept a doubleheader from Averill School of Hinckley in high school baseball action Saturday at the BC field.

The Patriots won the first game 25-2 and took the second 13-1.

Carr kept Averill hitless in the opener and helped his own cause with a home run and two singles (two RBIs). Jason Sanford was 3-for-4 with two doubles for Bangor Christian, which won its seventh straight after four losses.

Mick set the tone in the nightcap. John Wilbur slammed two triples and a single, knocking in four runs.

Joey Wardwell and Jenn Worster each had a double for 0-8 Averill.

Presque Isle, Brewer split

At Presque Isle, Adam Daigle pitched four innings of one-run relief in the nightcap to help the host Wildcats split with Brewer.

Brewer won the opener 9-8, while the Wildcats took the second game 8-6.

Jerry Crafts singled twice (2 RBIs) for 3-7 Brewer behind loser Greg Crossman.

In the opener, Dave Gregory singled two score Chris Horr in the seventh, giving the Witches the winning margin.

Gregory collected three hits for Brewer, while Tony Brigalli, Matt McGrath and Crafts added two hits each. Andy Dore earned the win in relief.

Ron Doughty and Scott Kenney had two hits each for the Wildcats. Scott Parsons doubled behind loser Jay Hayward.

Hampden sweeps Caribou

At Hampden, Matt Johnson’s two-run single highlighted a six-run fifth inning as the host Broncos completed a sweep of their doubleheader.

Hampden won the first game 6-2 and took the second 13-8.

In the nightcap, the hosts erased an 8-6 deficit with a six-run rally. Craig McBean socked a two-run home run and a single for the 6-4-1 Broncos, while Travis Cole had two hits and two RBIs.

Chris Brown and Mike Tardif had two hits each behind winner Chris Bartlett (3-0), who fanned four and did not walk a batter.

Scott Gove hit a two-run homer and singled twice for 2-8 Caribou, while Andy Thibodeau and Jason Pelletier contributed two singles and an RBI each.

Vince Pike scattered eight hits in the first game, striking out three and walking one. He also helped his own cause with a double.

Reid Harris knocked in two runs with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly, while Del Terrill doubled.

Loser Pelletier pitched a six-hitter and helped his own cause with a solo homer and a run-scoring single.

Dexter 10, Ellsworth 4

At Dexter, Mike Cooney went 2-for-4 with a single and a double to pace the Dexter offense en route to victory over Ellsworth.

Cliff Page pitched the win for 3-6 Dexter.

Jeff Haskins nailed a double and a single for 6-3 Ellsworth. Ricky Miles was 2-for-4 with two singles.

Orono 14, John Bapst 4

At Orono, Nate Ballard notched 10 strikeouts and walked only one, firing a six-hitter to lead Orono over John Bapst of Bangor.

Marc Halsted singled three times for 6-4 Orono, while John Wihbey and Zac Pelleriti each had a double and a single, with Wihbey getting four RBIs.

Shawn Damon was 3-for-3 with two RBIs to pace 3-6 John Bapst.
