Vikes score run in seventh to tip GSA

SEARSPORT – Joy Richard scored from third base on Jenn Shaver’s sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Searsport Vikings a 6-5 schoolgirl softball win over George Stevens Academy on Monday.

Richard started the inning by drawing a walk and she moved to second on Bree Robert’s single. Toni Tibbetts then sacrificed both runners to second and third before Shaver lofted a fly ball into the shallow part of the outfield. An infielder made the catch, but Richard scored on the play.

For the 9-1 Vikings, Robert had two doubles, a single and an RBI while Jen Russ had a triple.

Kelly Wilson led 7-5 GSA of Blue Hill with two singles, a double, and an RBI. Cara Carter posted three singles.

Old Town 12, Nokomis 10

At Newport, Jen Page had a triple, double, single, and four RBIs to lead the Old Town Indians to the win over host Nokomis.

Erica Nadeau singled twice and Chris Dunphy cracked a solo home run in the fourth for the 7-4 Indians.

Vivian Davis doubled and singled for 1-8 Nokomis. Danielle Brown also doubled.

Bucksport 6, Hermon 4

At Hermon, Jody Senter had two singles to lead the Bucksport Golden Bucks to the victory over host Hermon.

Kara Ready struck out six, walked seven, and scattered seven hits to earn the victory from the mound. Angela Brown added a double for the Bucks.

For Hermon, D.J. Glazier had three singles while Heather Pace and Jayne Frost each had two singles.

Ellsworth 19, MDI 12

At Ellsworth, Wendy Turner belted a grand slam and two singles and Melanie McCormick drove in three runs with three singles as the Eagles improved to 6-5.

Amanda Ray added two singles and an RBI for Ellsworth, while Jessica Crossman earned the pitching win.

For Mount Desert Island (6-5), Lissa Renalt drove in three runs with a pair of singles. Jamie Lewis socked a solo homer and Anjie Witte had three singles. Deb Ashmore tripled, singled and drove in two runs.

Brewer 16, Bangor 5

At Bangor, Emily Burrill drove in three runs with a triple and three singles and Jana Bishop went the distance for the pitching win as Brewer upped its record to 9-1.

Amanda Sevigny had a double and two singles for the Witches. Denise Hewes and Bishop each added two singles.

For Bangor, 5-5, Carrie Caler tripled and had two singles. Michelle Puls had two singles.

John Bapst 24, DI-S 7

At Husson College in Bangor, Katie Winslow (1-1) notched a complete-game victory and led the offense with three singles, a triple, and two RBIs for the host John Bapst Crusaders.

Meghan Smith hit a two-run homer and had three singles for the 4-8 Crusaders. Angel Graham hit five singles.

Nola Judkins had three singles and an RBI and Rachel Pilling had two singles and two RBIs for the 2-7 Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners.

At Pittsfield, Becky Vaughan (11-1) struck out nine, walking three, and allowing one hit to lead the host Maine Central Institute Huskies to the win.

Suzannah Barnes and Courtney Cianchette each singled twice for the Huskies.

For the 1-8 Windjammers, Jill Young’s single in the first inning was the only hit.

Foxcroft 14, Dexter 11

At Dover-Foxcroft, Cristel Young tripled, and hit a two-run double to put Foxcroft Academy up for good in the sixth to lead the host Ponies to the win.

Lisa Sockabasin singled twice and Erica Morrell (5-3) pitched a nine-hitter to give 6-5 Foxcroft its fourth straight win.

Tammy Page doubled twice and Chris Downing singled twice for the 6-4 Tigers.

Central-EC 10, PCHS 7

At Guilford, Sue Ann Allen pitched a five-hitter and had two singles and two RBIs to pace the Central Red Devils of East Corinth to the win over Piscataquis Community.

For the 8-5 Red Devils, Dawn Wood hit a two-run single.

Tanya Gogin doubled and singled for two RBIs and Heather Johnson had two singles and two RBI for 5-6 PCHS.

Greenville 11, Forest Hills 5

At Greenville, Hope Walden drove in three runs with a double and two singles and Erin McIver went the distance on the mound as Greenville upped its record to 7-3.

B.J. Laskey had three singles and three runs scored for Greenville. Stephanie Beckwith added two singles.

Forest Hills (4-4) was led by Melissa Nadeau, who tripled twice.
