GARLAND — The Central Maine Sheep Breeders Association will hold its third annual Sheep Day on Sunday, May 23.

People will be able to visit sheep farms to see lambs, ewes and rams, and learn how shepherds care for their flocks. Demonstrations will include shearing, preparation of wool, spinning and weaving. Border collies will demonstrate their expertise in herding.

Sheep Day locations in central Maine are:

Jim and Alice Bunn, Rideout Farm, Garland, noon to 5 p.m. They will show ewes, lambs, cows, workhorses, geese and chickens. There will be demonstrations on the use of electric fencing and spinning. The farm is two miles from Route 94 on Campbell Road, telephone 924-3925.

Elaine and Max Cloutier, Shepherd’s Purse Farm, Bates Road, Abbott, noon to 5 p.m. They will show Romney ewes and lambs. Demonstrations will be given on electric fences and spinning. Telephone 876-3736.

Joseph and Margaret Chernosky, Puddledock Farm, East Corinth, noon to dusk. They will show ewes, lambs, meat and wool breeds. Other attractions are: a spinning demonstration; fleece, wool and freezer lamb sales; and rotational grazing examples. They are on Puddledock Road. Take Route 15 in Corinth, then Route 43 east. Don and Peggy Gannon, the Shepherd’s Garden, Pittsfield, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Farm tours will be featured. They are off Route 2 at the south turn near the elementary school in Palmyra and half a mile down on the right. Telephone 938-4685.

Vicki and Larry MacDonald, Moosehead Farm, Greenville, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will show lambs and ewes. Shearing demonstrations will be featured and wagon rides will be given. There will be presentations on electric fences and plants. They are located off Route 15, the first right after the blinking light on Pleasant Street, 2 1/2 miles to the farm. Telephone 695-2639.

George and Roxanne Rolleston, Autumn Mist Farm, Sebec, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will show lambs and ewes and give spinning demonstrations. The farm is 6.3 miles from the Dover-Foxcroft Post Office on Route 16 toward Milo or 1.2 miles from the Sebec four-corners light. Telephone 564-3443.

W.G. Sinclair, Tripping Sheep Acres, Brownville, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. They will show ewes and lambs and there will be meat samples and sales. Yarn will be on display and there will be shearing demonstrations. From Brownville Village, take Pleasant River Road to the town office, 1 1/4 miles down river toward Milo. Telephone 965-8432.
