David B. Harrity, manager of the Manchester office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, has commended the Housing Authority of Brewer.

In a letter to Mayor Alan Whittemore, Harrity said, the Public Housing Management Assessment Program which implements the National Affordable Housing Act of 1990 and evaluates the authorities, gave the Brewer group a rating of 96.14 percent for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 1992.

“High performer designation is an outstanding accomplishment that entitles the authority to substantial relief from reporting the other requirements. High performing public housing authorities are afforded greater flexibility in the operation of their public housing programs with increased responsibility as well as authority for their own management decisions. As a result of this designation HUD monitoring may be conducted less frequently, and representatives of the authority may be asked to serve on departmental advisory groups,” wrote Harrity.

As a result of the HUD commendation, the council intended to present a commendation to the Brewer Housing Authority for achieving its high rating at the Tuesday, May 25, meeting.
