Girl Scout wins highest award

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Abbey House, 18, of Dover-Foxcroft has received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest in Girl Scouting. She is a 1993 graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School and will attend Georgia Technical College in Atlanta, Ga. She plans a career in medicine.

House started a program of international friendship with 6,600 other Girl Scouts of Abnaki Council, “Peace One Day at Least.” She designed a two-part postcard to be used by Maine girls seeking pen pals in other nations or parts of the United States. She sent the cards to Girl Scout friends she had met at the Sweden encampment and at conferences, with instructions to match pen pals.

House has been a Girl Scout for 12 years and was one of the 1993 recipients of the Abnaki Girl Scout Council College Scholarships. She has served on the Strategic Planning Task Group and Program Operation Unit.

House is the daughter of Louis and Jane House.
