ORONO – Gary Sibley scattered six hits and struck out 11 as Old Town-Orono downed Brewer 5-2 Sunday in Zone 1 American Legion baseball action.

Andy Trice led the 1-1 Twins with a double, a single, and 2 RBIs. Ron Coombs had two singles for the winners, while Jim Evans drilled an RBI double.

For the Falcons, now 3-1, Tiger Stewart had a double and a single, while pitcher Ben Jenkins picked up a pair of singles.

Sherman Bros. wins two

At Calais, host Sherman Brothers swept a doubleheader from Penquis here Saturday with a 12-8 win in the first game and a 6-0 victory in the second.

In the first game, Mike Morin helped lead a 14-hit attack by Sherman Brothers with two singles and a double. Mike King had three singles and two RBIs.

Shirl Penney notched the win and had a double and single, and Paul Napoleoni hit a three-run homer in the fourth for the 2-1 Sherman Brothers Suns.

For 0-3 Penquis, John Moore had two singles and two RBIs.

In the second game, Troy Dennison doubled and singled for two RBIs. Joe Viselli singled twice and stole three bases and Paul Napoleoni pitched one-hit ball over six innings for the win.

Moore again led Penquis with a single in the fourth for the only hit.

Skowhegan sweeps Trenton

At Skowhegan, the Log Drivers remained unbeaten at 4-0 after sweeping Trenton 3-2 and 9-8. In the first game, catcher Kregg Jarvais hit a solo homer and Eric Nichols doubled and singled to lead Skowhegan to the win.

John Alward pitched into the seventh inning and picked up the win.

Will Holloway hit three singles for the Acadians, while Jeff Haskins had two base hits. Jason Brown scattered seven hits in the losing effort.

In the second game, the bats heated up and the Log Drivers won a nine-inning slugfest. Adam Fitzpatrick stroked three singles and Garrett Quinn had a double and single to lead the way. Reliever Jared Cochran came on in the fifth and picked up the win.

Jarvais added two singles to the winning cause while Corey Hight had a double and single.

For Trenton, 1-3 after the losses, Jared Polchies had a two-run homer in the seventh and added a single. Matt Haney added a solo HR and two singles. Mike Clough came on in the third and for Trenton and finished the game and was saddled with the loss.

Brewer trips Bangor

At Bangor’s Garland Street Field, Danny Needham beat first baseman Mark Reed’s throw to the plate on Sean Smith’s eighth-inning infield grounder to break a 2-2 tie and Tim Hodgins followed with a two-run single as Brewer erupted for five runs to beat Bangor. Tiger Stewart added a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

Brewer’s field was unplayable so the game was switched to Garland Street Field.

Righthander Peter Kenny went the distance for the win, scattering seven hits with nine strikeouts and no walks. Just one of the runs off him was earned.

Hodgins had three hits and three RBIs for Brewer and Stewart had a pair of singles to go with his sacrifice fly. Greg Crossman and Needham each singled twice.

Justin Shaw doubled and singled for 0-2 Bangor and Matt Alaimo singled twice. Josh Jamieson had a triple and loser Matt Kinney pitched seven strong innings before the Falcons touched him up in the eighth.
