Winterport looks to future grants

WINTERPORT — The town’s Community Development Block Grant Committee met Tuesday night to identify the town’s major problems and make recommendations on what to apply for during the next round of CDBG funding.

Town Manager Scott Tilton said the committee came up with four problem areas that it would like to see addressed: public access to the Penobscot River; parking in the downtown area; improvement of sidewalks and curbs in the downtown area and installation of a brick sidewalk all the way to the school on Mountain View Drive; and improvement of the underground drainage on Side Street in the downtown area.

Tilton said the committee will meet at 6 p.m. July 15 at the municipal building. He said the public is encouraged to attend the meetings and new members are encouraged to join the committee.

Geraldine Dodson Smith was elected chairwoman of the committee and Sheila Rogers was named vice chairwoman. Other members of the committee so far are Regina Woolford, Selectmen Tracy Gran and Samuel Butler and Ed Russell.
