Each year NBC negotiates for the right to cover the first Saturday of Wimbledon tennis; each year WLBZ in Bangor decides that the people of Maine would rather watch paid commercials or movies (or just about anything but Wimbledon tennis). I find this presumptuous and infuriating. Surely a major network, experienced in the art of satisfying the public, has a better idea of what the American people want to watch than does one of its small, subsidiary affiliates.
