ORONO – Peter Wolley’s two-run single keyed a three-run, third-inning rally that broke a 2-2 tie and sent the Downeast Yankees on their way to an 8-3 Eastern Maine Amateur Baseball League victory over Buck Saver here Tuesday.
Singles by Eric Lanks and Dave Gray and a hit batsman set the stage for Wolley’s base hit and a run-producing fielder’s choice by Justin Harmon.
Danny Kane doubled and singled and drove in a run for the 8-6 winners with Sedge Saunders and Wolley collecting two base hits apiece.
Southpaw Jason Clough went four innings for the win, allowing seven hits and two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts and one walk. Rob Shea hurled three innings of four-hit, one (unearned) run relief. Shea fanned four and didn’t walk anybody.
Fred Lower had three hits and stole two bases for 2-11 Buck Saver. Scott Alexander and Scott Hanscom had two singles apiece.
