Caribou Historical Society to honor teachers

CARIBOU — The Caribou Historical Society will hold its annual pie and ice cream social 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at the historical center on Presque Isle Road.

The event, traditionally held to honor certain segments of Caribou’s history, will recognize the city’s teachers.

At 10 a.m., a grand opening will held for the Lyndon Center School, a new one-room, log schoolhouse built on the grounds in memory of Mildred B. Hatch.

Construction funds were contributed by the estate of former resident Norma Parsons Erb.

The building was furnished with Hatch’s museum collection of schoolhouse artifacts left to the historical society.

Teachers who have not been contacted to attend the celebration and want to participate should call the Caribou Historical Society during the day, except on Sundays and Mondays.

Transportation will be arranged.

Ice cream and homemade pies will be on sale throughout the day.

People with artifacts pertaining to early education, or games and toys from the one-room schoolhouse period are invited to submit them for loan for a related exhibit arranged for the day.
