UNITY — The investigation of a Tuesday night incident between rival groups from Unity and Detroit will probably go before a Waldo County grand jury for final disposition, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Department.
Chief Deputy Robert Jones said the first incident was reported just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, when a group of Unity residents went to Detroit, where a fight started. Later in the evening the group from Detroit went to Unity where another fight started at an apartment house. During the incident, a starter pistol was fired twice, according to Chief Deputy Jones.
The fight ended when apartment house owner Roger Coolen discharged a shotgun and ordered all parties to disperse.
Waldo County Deputy Mark Shade, who responded to the fight report in Unity, followed several cars to the Maroon Flat Road in Detroit, where the starter pistol was recovered.
Police said no arrests were made, but the investigation is continuing.
