Barnard trash plan approved

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Residents of Barnard will be able to deposit their trash at the Dover-Foxcroft transfer station as a result of action by Piscataquis County commissioners on Tuesday.

A contract signed by commissioners will take effect immediately.

The board also received a letter from the Department of Corrections announcing that the county would receive $52,000 as reimbursement payment for boarding prisoners at the county jail. Thirty percent of that money needs to go toward the funding of adult and juvenile community programs.

The commissioners also received a check for $30,000 from Federal Emergency Management Agency to pay for the repair of several county roads damaged during floods in April.

They also signed an agreement with the Department of Transportation with the county receiving $82,000 to maintain unorganized township roads during the summer and winter months.

The commissioners scheduled two tax abatement hearings. Lakeview Corp. vs. the town of Greenville will be heard at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, and Sebaycook Corp. vs. the town of Greenville will be heard at 10 a.m. that day.

The board will seek legal advice on a petition submitted by residents of Frenchtown to look into the summer maintenance of a road there.
