Schoolgirl soccer
EAST SULLIVAN – Alison Stevens scored early, giving goalkeeper Alyssa Weaver the only goal she would need as host Sumner beat Orono 1-0 in schoolgirl soccer action here Monday.
Stevens scored an unassisted goal with 10:23 left in the first half to provide the margin of victory for the 1-4 Tigers. Weaver stopped 10 of 12 shots in goal.
Cheryl Zoerheide made six stops on 10 shots for the 2-3-1 Red Riots.
Greenville 2, Lee 2 (OT)
At Greenville, the Lakers and Lee Academy played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie with neither team able to score after the first period.
Greenville’s first goal was scored by Crissie Giroux and theAngela Gray off an assist by Maren Muzzy.
Heather Cottle scored both Lee goals, unassisted.
Greenville goalie Erin Kate Springer made seven saves on nine shots while Lee goalie Heidi Osgood was making nine of 14. Greenville is now 5-0-1 and Lee 1-3-2.
Old Town 1, Nokomis 1 (OT)
At Old Town, the Warriors’ Liz Silva scored with just less than 14 minutes left to tie the game and the teams battled through two scoreless extra periods.
Silva ran through a Kelly Bowman cross and pounded it into the lower left corner of the net for the Nokomis goal. Danielle Brown made 11 saves on 15 shots for the 2-4-1 Warriors.
Kyla Malbon scored on an Angie Vaillancourt assist for 1-3-1 Old Town. Kendra Brown made nine stops on 12 shots.
Searsport 1, Hermon 0
At Hermon, Jaimee Murphy’s first-half goal held up as the game-winner as Searsport improved to 4-1.
Jen Russ set up the goal with a shot deflected by the Hermon goalie, and Murphy knocked the rebound into the net. Angela Levin made 11 saves on 16 shots.
Stephanie Huff and Pam Poland combined to make eight saves on 16 shots for 1-5-1 Hermon.
John Bapst 2, Bucksport 1 (OT)
At Bucksport, Cindy Nadeau converted an Angel Graham assist with 1:05 left in overtime to give the Crusaders the win.
Jen Sekera scored the other goal for 2-2-2 John Bapst of Bangor. Jaime Walls made seven saves on 16 shots.
Heather Carrier scored the Bucksport goal on a Carrie Russell assist. Sherri Sanna made seven saves on nine shots for the 3-4 Golden Bucks.
Bangor 2, Ellsworth 1
At Ellsworth, Alison Port scored two goals in a 17-second span of the second half to give the Rams their fourth win.
Port scored on a penalty kick and off a Jill Partridge assist to help Bangor improve to 4-1-1. Laura Jordan made six saves on 13 shots.
Jill Emerson scored on a Rebecca Stanley throw-in for 4-3 Ellsworth. Lisa Billings made eight saves on 13 shots.
Brewer 5, George Stevens 2
At Brewer, Chandra Blood scored four goals and Denise Hewes had two assists as the Witches improved to 4-2.
Brynn Clough scored twice for Brewer, while Jessica Chase and Suzie Flagg added assists. Heather Hogan made three stops on six shots.
Jocelyn Kaley scored two unassisted goals for the 2-2-1 Eagles. Kelly Wilson made 10 saves on 22 shots.
Dexter 3, Madison 0
At Madison, Angie Haven scored one goal and assisted on another as the Tigers picked up the win.
Nadine Taylor and Jamie Watson scored the other goals for 4-1-1 Dexter, while Abby Temple assisted on the Haven goal. Tammy Dowing made 10 saves on 11 shots.
Marcy Henderson made six saves on 18 shots for 1-4 Madison.
