GORHAM – The University of Southern Maine scored a pair of first-half goals en route to a 3-1 college field hockey victory over Bates College of Lewiston Tuesday.

Melissa Emery of USM, now 12-4, opened the scoring on a penalty stroke with 23:40 remaining in the first half. Denise Arsenault’s goal with 1:05 remaining broke a 1-1 tie, and Anna Struck topped off the Huskies’ scoring with 18:52 remaining in the game. Allison Goupil made seven saves on 10 shots for USM.

Rachel Dymoni’s goal with 3:57 to go in the first half tied the game for a few minutes until Arsenault tallied. Goalie Betsy Bennett made seven saves on 16 shots for Bates, 8-5.
