FORT KENT – Michael Sheppard’s goal off a Mark Goldberg assist with 11 minutes left in regulation lifted Unity College to a 1-0 win over the University of Maine-Fort Kent in the men’s Maine Small College Conference championship game here Thursday.
The win propelled Unity into the National Small College tournament in Rochester, Mich., next week.
Goalie Rich Dreves made nine saves for Unity, facing 16 shots.
For UMFK, 9-10, Nathan Guy made 12 saves in net, facing 24 shots.
Women’s Soccer
USM 4, Husson 2
At Bangor, Alison Gagnon had a goal and an assist to help take USM to the win. Kirstie Roy also had a goal and an assist for the Huskies. Cora Seaman had a goal off the Roy assist. Hilary Conant scored off a pass from MaryBeth Forest for 3-15-1 USM. Goalie Jen Toliquin had eight saves on 13 shots.
Sue Teene had a goal and an asist for 2-10-1 Husson. Carrie Ives scored the other Husson goal. Goalie April Wallace had six saves on 18 shots.
Plymouth State 2, Maine 0
At Plymouth, N.H., Jaime Skerker and Stacey Freda scored goals as the Panthers handed the University of Maine a season-ending loss.
Plymouth State College improved to 12-2-1, while Maine dropped to 2-12-3.
Mary-Bridget Pawlite, Lisa Freda, and Sharon Caldwell had assists for the Panthers. Jaime Wilhite made four saves.
Allison Snooks made eight saves for the Black Bears.
Field Hockey
USM 0, Clark 0
At Gorham, the Huskies outshot Clark 31-7, but neither team was able to put the ball in the net through regulation and two overtimes.
Allison Goupil made one save on seven shots for the 12-4-1 University of Southern Maine.
Jennifer West made 17 saves on 31 shots for 11-4-2 Clark.
