LEWISTON — A 44-year-old Lewiston man has been charged with attempted murder for repeatedly stabbing a man in the chest and side, police said Friday.

Lee Eirby was arrested without incident at his home after the stabbing Thursday night, said Lewiston police spokesman Brett Coleman.

Edward Gooldrup, 24, of Lewiston was released from St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Friday after receiving 100 stitches to close his wounds, Coleman said.

Gooldrup was bleeding severely when officers found him after the stabbing about 10:50 p.m.

The victim said he was visiting a friend when someone named “Bubba” attacked him. Lewiston police officer Michael Bussiere identified the attacker as Eirby based on the victim’s description, Coleman said.

Eirby was being held at the Androscoggin County Jail, with bail set at $500,000 double surety or $250,000 cash.
