Another big announcement has come out of the Ricky Craven Motorsports camp.
According to Craven spokesman Ron Miller of Performance PR Plus, the 27-year-old Newburgh native is going to race a limited schedule of Winston Cup events in the 1994 season.
Earlier this season, Craven announced he was leaving the J&J Racing Team he has raced with this season to begin his own team, Ricky Craven Motorsports in Charlotte, N.C.
He still plans to pursue the NASCAR Grand National points title while picking and choosing a few Winston Cup events, Miller said.
“It’s something we’re just looking at, but we’re hoping to get race at least four Winston Cup events in 1994,” Miller said. “First and foremost, though, our goal is to win the championship of the Busch series.”
Craven, who has spent parts of the last week in Phoenix and Dallas for his corporate sponsor DuPont Automotive Finishes, was in Worcester, Mass., on Wednesday night and unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts.
Many of the specifics still have to be figured out, according to Miller, including whose Winston Cup car Craven will drive and which races he will compete in.
“We’re looking at several options,” Miller said.
With two races left in the 1993 NASCAR GN season, Craven is third in the points with a chance at gaining the second spot. He has yet to win a GN race since leaving the NASCAR Grand National North tour two years ago.
