For the first time since the Maine small-college CBB series began in 1965, a two-way tie for the championship was the final outcome.

Bowdoin College quarterback Ramon Martinez scored his second rushing touchdown of the game with 6:29 left in the fourth quarter to secure a 21-21 tie with Colby in the championship game.

Both teams posted 1-0-1 records in the series which includes Bates College.

Also on Saturday, Hamilton defeated Bates 35-7.

Bowdoin 21, Colby 21

At Brunswick, Martinez scored his third touchdown on a 1-yard run with 6:29 left in the game as Bowdoin came from behind for a 21-21 tie against Colby.

Martinez, returning from an ankle injury suffered three weeks ago, accounted for 230 yards and all three touchdowns for Bowdoin, 3-4-1. Two of the scores came on 1-yard runs while the other came on a 18-yard pass to Jon Beedy.

Colby, 5-2-1, was led by Brad Smith who ran for touchdowns of 10 yards and 2 yards and caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matt Mannering.

Hamilton 35, Bates 7

At Clinton, N.Y., Mike Rahmer rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns to help Hamilton to its only victory of the season.

Rahmer ran 29 yards to give Hamilton, 1-7, its first score of the game. Lucas Watson connected with Dan Spitzen for an 11-yard scoring strike with 9:16 left in the second quarter to make it 14-0.

Bates, 0-8, scored its only touchdown on a 37-yard pass from Dan Hooley to Ron Hawkins.

Eric Marina scored two 1-yard TD runs for the Continentals in the second half to make it 28-7 in the third quarter.

Rahmer added a 27-yard run for the game’s final score.
