BAILEYVILLE — The Baileyville town employees will try to rekindle the spirit of Christmas magic and wonder by promoting colorful and artistic lighting displays in December through a local holiday decorating contest.

The employees will judge the “Festival of Lights” contest on Saturday night, Dec. 11, according to Town Manager Edward M. Collins.

Anyone within the town limits of Baileyville, from the Princeton Town Line to the Squirrel Point and Grand Falls areas; from the Baring Town Line to the Alexander Town Line, including Bear Cove, is encouraged to dust off their holiday spirit and decorate their property in Christmas finery.

Prize categories will include best of show, most original and creative; best display of the true meaning of Christmas; the North Pole award for the best use of the Santa theme; the Norman Rockwell award for the best portrayal of an old fashioned country-Christmas theme; the Eastern Maine Electric Co-op (EMEC) award for the fastest spinning electric meter; funniest display; most elegant display; and best display by a business.

Because the Christmas season is also known as the season of giving, the employees will ask local businesses for donations to assist in the awarding of prizes for this contest.
