PORTLAND – Dennis Chasse and Rene Corbet had two goals each as the Cornwall Aces defeated the Portland Pirates 5-3 in a matchup of the American Hockey League’s division leaders.

John Tanner made 37 saves as Cornwall (10-8-2) handed the Pirates their first home loss and ended an 8-0-1 streak.

Portland (14-5-2) had trailed by two goals midway through the third, but closed the gap to 4-3 with 9:21 to go with a backhand shot to the top corner by Kent Hulst.

The Pirates had two power-play opportunities in the final 8:28, but failed to score.

Cornwall’s Corbet closed the game with a 40-foot backhand shot into an empty net with 42 second left.
