ORONO – The University of Maine will investigate the recent disclosure that hockey coach Shawn Walsh had prior knowledge of the NCAA’s interpretation of the eligibility status of freshman defenseman Jeff Tory, the school announced Sunday.

UMaine President Fred Hutchinson, athletic director Mike Ploszek, and George Jacobson, faculty athletics representative to the NCAA, will meet with the individuals involved in this case early this week to determine the University’s response to the NCAA’s decision that Tory ineligible.

“We are deeply concerned and consider this a very serious matter,” said Ploszek. “We will take every action necessary to ensure the integrity and reputation of the university.”

Tory was found academically ineligible by the NCAA last week.
