ORONO – Aaron Boone scored three goals and had two assists and Darren Beers added two goals and three assists as the Brewer Witches opened their high school hockey season with a 15-0 victory over Lawrence of Fairfield Wednesday night at Alfond Arena.

Ben Ellis scored twice and had two assists, Chris Roeder had a goal and three assists, and Aaron O’Donnell assisted on three goals to lead Brewer. Matt Blaine and Michael Lindstrom combined to make five saves in net.

Nick Namer made 26 saves on 41 shots for the 0-2 Bulldogs.

Stearns 5, Hampden 1

At Bangor, Micah Illingworth scored two goals and assisted on another as the Minutemen handed the Broncos a loss in their first-ever varsity hockey game.

Josh Lynch had a goal and two assists for Stearns, while Wade Coffin had a goal and an assist. Matt MacDonald scored a goal and Josh Perry had an assist. Ben Hanscom made 22 saves in net.

Chris Philbrook scored the goal for Hampden with Aaron King and Rob King assisting. Corey Nicholson made 24 saves.
