WATERVILLE – Derek Thompson’s offensive rebound basket as time expired in overtime led the Maine Maritime Academy to a 99-97 victory over Thomas College in men’s college basketball action here Wednesday.
Thompson finished with 23 points to lead the Mariners, who had rebounded from a 15-point second half deficit to tie the game at 84-84 at the end of the regulation.
Doug Peters added 21 points for MMA while John Francis had 16 and Adam Wheeler had 13. John Nichols added 10 points while Wade Brazier grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
For Thomas, which had trailed by six in the last minute of overtime before tying it with six seconds left on Chris Aube’s steal and layup, Stephen St. Martin tossed in a game-high 31 points.
Chris Pearce added 19 points while Michael Adams and Mike Gillespie had 15 points each. Aube added 11 while Adams recorded 12 rebounds.
