SAINT-DONAT, Quebec. – Cristl Hager, looking to race her way back onto the U.S. Ski Team, took charge on the second run Sunday to win a North American Championship Series slalom and lead U.S. skiers to a 1-2-3 sweep at Mont Garceau.
Hager, an Olympic Valley, Calif., racer whose father, Ernst, is head downhill coach for the U.S. women’s team, was timed for two runs in 1 minute, 33.94 seconds. Her time of 47.52 was fastest on the second run.
Runnerup was Anna Parisien of Sugarloaf, Maine, with a time of 1:34.05. Megan Brown of Brandon, Vt., was third in 1:34.46.
First-run leader Edith Rozsa faltered in the second but still held onto fourth place, .03 back of Brown.
NorAms are development-level races leading to the World Cup. The series heads back to the United States with the next women’s race a giant slalom Tuesday at Wildcat Mountain in New Hampshire. NorAm
