ORONO – It could easily have been 1-1. Instead, it was 2-0.

Brewer High School junior goalie Michael Lindstrom stopped an Andy Trice breakaway midway through the second period and, less than 10 seconds later, teammate Aaron Boone scored to make it 2-0 as the unbeaten Witches won their fifth game, 7-0, over Old Town at the Alfond Arena here Tuesday night.

“That was a big turning point,” said Old Town coach Gene Fadrigon, whose 0-3 Indians surrendered two more goals later in the middle period before Brewer’s Darren Beers, who got the final goal in the second period, added three more in the third.

Brewer junior center Matt Enman had broken a scoreless deadlock with his first goal of the season at the 3:02 mark of the second period as he fought off an Old Town checker, who had lifted his stick initially, and snapped a 16-foot wrist shot between the pads of Old Town sophomore goalie Izaak Nason.

But Casey Fitzgerald sent Trice in alone on Lindstrom five minutes later.

“I was going to let him make the first move,” said Lindstrom, who is an exchange student from Sweden. “He pulled it to his backhand and I moved over and got my glove on it.”

In the ensuing action, Aaron O’Donnell passed the puck up to Boone, who had a three-on-oh against Nason.

Boone unleashed a 25-foot drive that cleanly beat Nason through the pads for his 12th goal of the season.

Lindstrom came up with a big pad save when Joe Field found an open lane and maneuvered his way to the front of the net from the left-wing boards.

Lindstrom said he came out and cut down the angle on Field “because I knew there was nobody in the center for him to pass to.”

Shortly afterward, Jason Seavey and Beers made it 4-0 by scoring 1:10 apart later in the period.

Boone won a faceoff to Nason’s left and tied up an Indian defenseman, allowing Seavey to pounce on the loose puck and cut across the low slot.

“The goalie couldn’t get over in time,” said Seavey, who slid a short backhander inside the far post.

Beers was set up by Chris Roeder and Boone as Boone tapped a Roeder pass over to him.

Beers, cutting from left to right across the low slot, deposited a short backhander past Nason.

“He reached over with his glove but I slid it under the glove,” said Beers.

Beers iced the game with a breakaway backhander at the 2:19 mark of the final period and he scored a couple of late goals to cap his four-goal game.

“This is the biggest win we’ve had so far,” said talented senior right winger Beers, whose win over Old Town was the first of his four-year career at Brewer.

Lindstrom finished with 27 saves while Nason had 19.

“Michael played really well tonight,” said Brewer Coach Bill Schwarz. “And I thought the team played very well, particularly in the second and third periods. We played well defensively.”

Boone, O’Donnell and Chris Roeder had two assists each for Brewer.

Senior defenseman Chad Chunglo turned in an outstanding game for Old Town.
