Brownville selectmen review report

BROWNVILLE — Jim McClellan of Engineering Dynamics Inc., the consultant the town hired to study its two water companies and come up with a list of recommendations for improvements, met Tuesday with the selectmen to go over his draft report on the village water systems.

The selectmen made several suggestions to modify the report.

The engineer will incorporate the selectmen’s ideas, said Town Manager Gerald Wagg, and he will come back with a final draft for the community leaders at the Tuesday, Jan. 4, meeting.

The manager reported on his meeting with the town’s auditor on the procedures necessary to consider a rate increase for the city’s water users.

The board voted to close the books on the water department now that the audit has been completed. That allows them to have the 1992-93 figures needed to work out the proposed rate increase, said the manager.

Selectmen also put out a call for volunteers to serve on the town’s budget committee. The manager said they need people who will be willing to put in time and attend the meetings needed to prepare the budget for the annual town meeting.

Residents who are interested in serving are asked to contact the town office to volunteer. The board will appoint the committee at its Jan. 4 meeting.

Selectmen also began a review of the applicants for the town manager’s position. Manager Wagg informed the selectmen recently that he intends to retire right after the annual town meeting. So far, 18 candidates have applied for the position.

Selectmen will spend the week reviewing the resumes of those interested in the job, and by the next meeting they will narrow the field down to those they want to interview.
