VAN BUREN — Van Buren’s police chief confirmed Thursday that he has resigned the position he has held since 1987. His resignation is effective Monday, Jan. 17.
Police Chief Herman Pelletier did not offer a reason for his resignation. A 16-year veteran of the Van Buren Police Department, he served as supervisor from 1985 until he was named chief. He was a patrolman before that.
Town Council Chairman Norman Thibodeau said that he was notified of Pelletier’s resignation last week by Town Manager Clare Dever, but had not been given a reason. Dever was not available for comment Thursday.
Thibodeau said the position will be advertised.
