Bucksport’s TDC named a top operator

The Bucksport-based Training and Development Corp. has been named a top operator nationwide of federal Job Corps programs.

The TDC was one of two organizations named by the U.S. Department of Labor as best center operators of the Job Corps programs, which provide education and job training for young people.

Also named as a top operator was the Utah-based Management Training Corp. MTC is the largest manager of Job Corps programs, with responsibilities for 23 of the nation’s 109 centers.

The TDC operates the Penobscot Job Corps Center in Bangor and the Blue Ridge Job Corps Center in Marion, Va., which was named the top center in improving the average length of stay of its students.

In a prepared statement, TDC President and CEO Charles Tetro said, “TDC employees are committed to principled, caring and high-performing work, and it is gratifying when it is recognized.”

The Penobscot Job Corps Center in Bangor is the only Job Corps program in the state, but there soon may be a second one. Loring Air Force Base is one of 25 sites being considered for nine new Job Corps centers nationwide. A decision is expected in March. Who will operate these programs will be determined in a competative bid process.
