Chairman to give up town post

DEXTER — After 18 years as chairman of the Dexter Town Council, Roger Brawn will hand over the gavel to another councilor this Thursday.

Two years ago, voters in Dexter approved term limits for their council’s chairmen, allowing those officials to serve only two consecutive one-year terms.

Councilors will elect a new chairman when they meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Dexter Town Council chambers. The councilors also will elect a vice chairman to preside over council meetings.

Incumbents Karen Marlin and Peter Haskell, who were both re-elected to the council last November, also will be administered the oath of office.

A number of appointments will be before the council. These include: Marcia Delaware as town clerk and registrar of voters; Marilyn Curtis as tax collector, excise tax collector and assistant to the treasurer for financial administration; David Clukey, police chief; Michael Delaware, road commissioner and public works director; Linda Clukey, welfare director; Edward Walker, recreation director, ambulance director, and building maintenance supervisor; Melvin Wyman, fire chief; Roger Nelson, airport manager; Emile Dubois, plumbing inspector; William Murphy, alternate plumbing inspector and code enforcement officer; James Austin, town attorney; David Pearson, public health officer; Timothy Briggs, sealer of weights and measures; and Elizabeth Breault, librarian.

Other appointments include: Steve Whitesel, town treasurer; David Pearson, tax assessor; Dean Thompson and Tim Mountain, appeals board; Aloyse Larrabee, human resources committee; Carmen Nelson and Wilfred Murray, parks and recreation committee; Edward Guiski, Steve Whitesel, Ed Walker, Grayson Bishop, Ray Wallace, recreation project committee; Roland Clukey, Frank Oldis, municipal airport committee; and David Rudolph, Steve Whitesel and Bill Murphy, comprehensive planning committee.

Annual renewals for junkyard permits also will be acted on by the council. These include permits for Linda Oakes, doing business as L & E Auto Salvage; Robert Edgerly, owner of Edgerly’s Scrap Metal; Floyd and Randy Gudroe, owners of Gudroe’s Used Cars and Auto Salvage; James Grant, owner of Grant’s Used Auto Parts; and John and Gloria Poulin, owners of Poulin’s Salvage.
