I was shocked to think that the advisers to the president of the United States think of recommending lifting the trade embargo against Vietnam. The Vietnam government has not released all documents, films, pictures and other information concerning MIAs-POWs that were held and have not allowed the members of the Joint Task Force for Full Accounting to conduct, I feel, complete investigations. I think that Sen. Kerrey, who is going to visit Vietnam, may also want to talk with the families who see the problem from a first-hand experience.
How could the president even consider lifting the embargo; this would mean the Vietnamese government and big business mean more to the president and the rest of the United States government than the U.S. servicemen who answer their country’s call to service. The families of those who never returned are not asking for much, just that the Vietnamese government allow the Task Force for Full Accounting be allowed to do its job unhindered, that they release all information concerning U.S. servicemen to the U.S. government.
I speak very much informed on this issue as I have been the last four years getting only what the government of Vietnam release, yet every time they say all the information is released, more is found as the task force pushes harder for more. I hope the U.S. government does not turn its back on my father, Capt. Walter Hall, listed MIA-POW, because of big business smelling a profit. These men made the ultimate scarifices for their country; they did not turn their backs when called upon to serve their country.
Maybe the big companies who want so badly to invest in Vietnam could help to resolve this issue by helping to resolve this issue, as if it were not for the men and women of the armed forces of this country who protect ours and their freedom as well they would not be where they are today in the business world.
