Mariners turn back Eagles

DEER ISLE – Deer Isle-Stonington made 10 free throws in the fourth quarter and turned back Temple Christian of Ellsworth 53-48 in schoolboy basketball action Thursday night.

Andrew Wendell scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Mariners. Shaun Webb added 14 and Ryan Jones had 12.

At Hampden, the Broncos surged out to a 30-8 first-quarter lead behind 11 Jack Kelly points en route to their 11th victory.

Jon Kunz paced the Broncs with 17 points and Kelly finished with 13.

Joe Crowell scored 17 for Hermon.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Duane Walton and Derek Grant scored eight points apiece to spark a 25-10 fourth quarter as the Ponies came away with the win.

Walton finished with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and seven blocked shots for Foxcroft Academy, while Grant finished with 18 points.

Matt Thomas and Dan Cookson led Piscataquis Community of Guilford with 15 points each. Kam Kimball netted 10.
