With three games left in their season, Brewer High School Coach Mark Savage knew his boys basketball team would have to win all of their remaining games to have any hopes at making it to the Eastern Maine Class A basketball tournament in early March.

After Saturday’s game against Caribou, the Witches had two down with one to go.

Two days after upsetting then-top seeded Bangor, Brian Colman scored 16 points and and grabbed eight rebounds led the Witches to a 66-62 victory over Caribou at Brewer High on Saturday.

The Witches trailed by 12 after three quarters, but pressed their way to a 24-8 fourth-quarter advantage and the win.

Andy Dore added 15 points while Jon Thomas netted 11 and Troy Leavitt had 10 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Chris Funk had 16 points for the Vikings. Toby Newbegin and Brad Sargent added 10 apiece.

The Witches ended their season next Saturday at Presque Isle.

Old Town 51, Hampden 44

At Old Town, a patient offense and good defense propelled the Indians to a point-worthy win.

Greg Thibodeau and Chris Hashey scored six in the second quarter, when the Indians outscored Hampden 17-8. Thibodeau finished with 18 points, Hashey 12, and Reggie Dorr added 10.

Jack Kelly paced Hampden with 13 points, and Reed Harris added 10.

At Brewer, the Witches held Caribou to two points and scored nine of their own in the third quarter and held on for a key Big East win.

Brynn Clough led Brewer with 12 points while Denise Hewes and Chandra Blood had seven point.

Lise Carter scored nine for the Vikings.

At Islesboro, Katie Wuori scored 17 points and handed out seven assists to lead the Eagles past the Vikings.

Mandy Hatch added 16 points and seven rebounds for the winners and Arison Antonucci netted 14.

Farrah Swears had a game-high 24 for Vinalhaven.
