Health care reform dominated a two-hour “town meeting” between U.S. Rep. Olympia J. Snowe and about 50 constituents Monday morning at Bangor City Hall.
Snowe’s meeting at Bangor will be one of many throughout Maine. Snowe said she wished to see health care reform pass through Congress this year and that it was one of her priorities.
Snowe supports the bipartisan Cooper-Grandy health care reform proposal sponsored by Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Tenn., and Rep. Fred Grandy, R-Iowa. Snowe was an original co-sponsor of the bill, which she described as a “significant proposal” with many measures to improve health care cost and access.
The bipartisan bill has no employer mandates and Snowe said that the current administration proposal would be catastrophic for many Maine small businesses.
