7 departments cooperate on fire

SKOWHEGAN — Firefighters from seven area departments were dispatched to a structure fire in North New Portland Friday afternoon.

According to a dispatcher at the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 call came in at 12:47 p.m., reporting a large barn and house fire. An eyewitness report said a home and barn on Route 16 owned by Luigi and Christa Marcelli were engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

According to the dispatcher, the numerous departments were called for water relays and additional personnel. Firefighters remained at the scene into the afternoon.
