OCOEE, Fla. – Freshman Samantha Hodson scattered six hits and helped her own cause in her first-ever collegiate start by going 2-for-2 with a single, a double, and an RBI, highlighting a pair of University of Maine college softball victories here Wednesday.
Hodson’s effort helped the Bears defeated Radford University 8-1 in the first game. Later in the day, Maine defeated Southwest Missouri 3-1.
The Black Bears are now 6-2 on the season.
In the first game, catcher Kelly Dow went 3-for-3 with three singles and two RBIs while Deb Smith had two singles and one RBI.
Suzie Rath led Radford (2-9) with two singles.
Cindy Harrington went 2-for-3 with two singles and scored two runs as Deb Smith picked up her fourth win in four starts en route to the win over Southwest Missouri.
Smith gave up three hits, struck out four, and walked one in six innings to earn the win.
Kristin Steele tripled and drove in a run.
Maine next plays Loyola at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, and the Univesity of North Carolina-Wilmington at 4:45 p.m. (First Game)
