Your article of Feb. 18, “Many Maine towns facing civil suits,” states, “Robert Sweetall is suing the town (Blue Hill) over unadvertised meetings and failure to provide timely access to town documents.” This statement is inaccurate and highly misleading.

The initial court action was filed by both Robert and Blanche Sweetall and was simply an appeal of a land use ruling by town officials, as is provided by the town ordinance and the Maine statute.

Our second action was taken to secure the statutory and constitutional rights of ourselves and 175 other Blue Hill voters who had petitioned the selectmen for a secret ballot referendum.

Neither of these court actions seeks money damages — only compliance by town officials with the ordinance and statute involved. Robert V. Sweetall Blanche M. Sweetall Blue Hill
