Kudos to Ron Brown on his column (BDN, March 2) regarding Woody Carville and the situation with the athletic department at the University of Maine.
A full-time compliance director is nonsense; what is the athletic director for? What UM needs to do is wake up, smell the sweatsocks and accept the fact that it’s not going to be “Big Ten.” And whoever said being “Big Ten” was such a great thing to aspire to?
I had high hopes with the return of Fred Hutchinson that the university would put aside the nonsense and again concentrate (on) its primary mission of education. Please tell me those hopes won’t be crushed like trod-upon pom-poms. Kim Marchegiani Old Town
