HOULTON — The Southern Aroostook Solid Waste Disposal District has listed the following guidelines for farmers who participate in the cull-potato composting program operated by the district and the Aroostook County Soil and Water Conservation Districts:
The SASWDD compost area is located at the Houlton septic waste site on Hidden Road located off North Road across from Double D Trucking.
Delivery of potatoes will be accepted as early as 6 a.m. Hours and days of operation will depend on weather, road and field conditions.
Weight tickets will be required. Scales are available at the Irving Big Stop in Houlton.
Load contaminants such as pallets, bags, rocks and steel will not be accepted. If such materials are found in a load or dumped at the site, the driver of the truck will be required to remove them.
Because of mud at the dumping site, tire chains should be used.
To make arrangements for transporting potatoes and for reimbursement of costs, call Garry Pangburn or Roxanne Perry at 764-4153.
For additional information, growers should call the soil and water conservation district that serves their area.
