ROCK HILL, S.C. – The University of Maine’s softball team went 4-1 in the Winthrop University Invitational Softball Tournament held on Friday and Saturday here.
Sunday’s play was canceled due to rain.
Maine beat Marshall, 4-2 and posted 4-1 wins over Winthrop and Mercer while also receiving a forfeit win over Drexel, which didn’t show up. Maine lost to Notre Dame 3-1.
In the wins over Winthop and Mercer, the 17-10 Bears received a seven-hitter and a five-hitter from junior pitcher Cindy Harrington, respectively.
Sandy Smith and Deb Smith had two singles apiece for Maine in the win over Winthrop. Christi Adams had two singles for Winthrop.
