BUCKSPORT — Following on the heels of Bangor and Ellsworth, the Town Council is considering enacting an ordinance requiring owners to clean up after their dogs.

Members hope such regulations would eliminate the problem of dog waste on the town waterfront.

At its most recent meeting, the Town Council voted unanimously to have the local ordinance committee address the problem. Town Manager Roger Raymond said he had requested copies of the ordinances adopted in the other two municipalities.

Although signs have been posted in the area, Town Council members said more needs to be done to protect the refurbished waterfront. “We haven’t spent $100,000 down there to have a few dogs ruin it,” said Councilor Sharyn Davenport.
