BANGOR — Bangor’s annual spring cleanup begins this week.

Due to the closing of the Kittredge Road Landfill, this year’s program will be limited to curbside collection.

The curbside program is available to residents of single-family homes and apartments of four units or less.

The following items will be picked up: yard waste; household furnishings; white goods such as ranges, dishwashers, washers, dryers and hot water heaters, with a limit of two per residence; metals weighing under 10 pounds; and wood wastes which are bundled and weigh less than 40 pounds.

Refrigerators, air conditioners and freezers will not be collected because of laws regarding the disposal of freon gas. Other items that will not be taken are: construction debris, including roofing materials; tree stumps and limbs over 4 inches in diameter; and vehicle parts or metals weighing over 10 pounds.

The collection schedule is:

April 27 and 28 are the collection dates for residents with regularly scheduled trash pickup on Mondays.

May 2 and 3 are the dates for those with Tuesday trash pickups.

Spring cleanup for residents with Wednesday trash pickups will be May 4 and 5.

The following week, May 9 and 10, are for those with regularly scheduled Thursday pickups and May 11 and 12 are for Friday pickups.

All materials to be picked up should be placed at the curbside on the Monday prior to the scheduled collection date.
