Re: the recent announcement of the closure of the Great Northern Rice Farm Nursery. It is sad that Bowater doesn’t have the ambition or imagination to develop this prime resource into a money-making asset. They plan to buy their trees for the small amount of replanting they do rather than grow enough to replant and sell. What else can we expect from our benevolent employer?

Hopefully, our tax dollar-supported KRDC is on the bandwagon and helping someone locally to secure the financing and guidance needed to purchase this prime piece of property. Maybe the towns and local unions should band together and purchase it. Of course, it has to be put up for sale first. There may be plans for it, but I’m sure we’ll be the last to know.
