PORTLAND (AP) — Gubernatorial candidate Tom Allen on Wednesday announced a proposal to help Maine businesses gain access to a national computer network offering a broad array of information services.

Allen, one of five candidates for the Democratic nomination, wants the state to buy down the costs of hooking into the high-speed Internet system through three new “nodes.” The state would pay upfront costs, but users would pay that back through fees.
