BANGOR — Keith Curtis of Waterville won best of show for his pastel “Down the Drain” at the Bangor Art Society juried show Monday at the Bangor Public Library.

Winners in the oil painting category were: first, Stanley Whitman of Danforth, “Portrait”; second, Peter Sirois of Bangor, “In Touch with the World”; honorable mention, Jo-Anne Houlsen of LaGrange, “View from a Country School Window.”

Winners in the acrylic category were: first, Cheri Walton of Bangor, “The Cat Killer”; second, Helena Bosse of Milford, “Headin’ for the Chesapeake”; honorable mention, Marilyn Dwelley of China, “Eastport Breakwater.”

Winners in the watercolor division were: first, Michael Vermette of Old Town, “Tying the Dredge”; second, Chantal Hathaway of Millinocket, “Tulips on a Blue Rug”; honorable mention, Helen Wolfhagen of Orono, “Blue Marble.”

In the category labeled “other” the winners were: first, Heather Small of Bangor, “Avery” (oil crayon); second, Elaine Hamilton of Orono, “Lady Stone Mason” (woodcut print); honorable mention, James Toothaker of Hampden, “Lovely Huyla Girl” (mixed media).

The Bangor Art Society, which was established in 1875, sponsors the annual juried show. The judges this year were Margaret Manter of Veazie, Nina Sutcliffe and Owen Smith, both of Bangor.
