Ticking off a list of potential vacation health problems? Don’t overlook lyme disease, and watch out for trouble spots this summer, says Travel & Leisure magazine.

Specifically, beware of “wooded areas where deer, deer ticks, rodents or lyme bacteria and people cross paths.”

If you’re venturing into such areas — especially on Block Island, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and parts of Cape Cod and Long Island — use insect repellent with deet (carefully spray ankles) and wear permethrin-treated pants, socks and long-sleeved shirts.

And although the problem is not widespread in Europe, those exploring the Vienna Woods, the forests around Berlin, wooded parks north of Stockholm and forest preserves around Paris should take the same precautions.
