PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Area Agency on Aging will hold three public hearings on an agency plan to provide services to meet the needs of older people in Aroostook County.

The mission of the agency is to assure that older people, especially those who are frail, living alone, or have low incomes, receive the support necessary to maintain independence in the community. To help carry out the mission, the agency plans to spend more than $2 million on services this year, according to Stephen Farnham, AAA’s executive director.

The agency provides services that help more than 4,000 older people in Aroostook County, said Farnham.

The hearings are scheduled as follows: 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Birch Street Community Center in Presque Isle; noon Tuesday, May 24, at the Senior Center at 16 East Main St. in Fort Kent; and noon Thursday, May 26, at the Ricker Plaza on Military Street in Houlton.
