Even if there were not a dozen other important reasons, Olympia J. Snowe’s vote against the ban on assault weapons alone makes her unfit to be a representative of Maine in the U.S. Congress.
Her abject capitulation to the will of the National Rifle Association in the face of clear public abhorrence of the wicked roll assault weapons play in rampant crime in America is unacceptable. In fear of the NRA, she even voted earlier against the Brady bill for a simple five-day waiting period.
Thanks to the courage of a bare majority in those votes, the American people were well served by Congress, no thanks to Olympia J. Snowe. Tom Schroth Sedgwick
