SHIRLEY — Faced with a declining enrollment but a desire to keep the Shirley Elementary School open, the school committee voted Wednesday to advertise for tuition students.
Currently, the public school serves 15 students in kindergarten through Grade 6. Attempts have been made by some parents to keep students in Grades 7 and 8 at the school rather than transport them to Greenville schools, but a majority of parents have defeated this move.
To entice new students to the school, the committee will offer a family a tuition rate of $1,250 for one child and $1,000 for a second child.
